Globally, manufacturing output continues to increase and most companies have an international footprint. This module explores how firms grow, how changing global conditions influence their management and the implications for industrial policy.

On completion of the module students should be able to:

  • Describe and illustrate the key mechanisms by which businesses are initiated, the capabilities required and the risks
  • Develop outline plans for industrial growth based upon different business models, contexts and resource availability
  • Interpret the impact of changing global conditions on the management of complex multi-national manufacturing businesses
  • Identify the impact of technology and industrial policies on company strategy and operations
